Course Description

Objectives of the course:
  • This course on constitutional law will help students of law who are either enrolled in a five-year law course or three-year law course as well as others preparing for law competitive exams to understand their constitution and its salient features. The historical background of the Constitution started from the Company rule in India (1773-1858) and the Crown Rule ( 1858- 1947) along with the important pre-constitution acts.
  • The course also talks about the various sources from which the constitution was drawn and how they have been incorporated into our constitution.
  • The course will also help to understand the difference between constitution, constitutional law, and constitutionalism and how are they interrelated to each other along with examples.
  • The course will help to understand the structure of our Constitution and the preamble which contains the ideals and objectives which the framers had in mind while drafting the Constitution.
  • It will help in understanding the importance of directive principles of state policy and how the State have a duty to keep them in mind while framing law and policies.
